Parenting Game Changer: Portable High Chair

As a mom to three kids, I have used a lot of baby/kid equipment-- like a lot. Some of the things have been one hit wonders, utter failures, and others, like the Portable High Chair from Ciao! Baby have changed the way I mom, the way my husband and I parent, the way we do things as a family.

Kid the Third

She gets a lot of hand-me-downs and this portable high chair is one of our favorites.

Rewind the tape to six years ago. I was pregnant with our first kid and being showered by so many friends and family-- it was amazing. Of course, I had no idea when I saw the folding high chair, complete with carrying bag, that it would be a piece of baby equipment I would still be using for kid number three. In parenting things change; I changed as a mom; for example, I don’t use a diaper bag (I have an army of those), I worry less and I’m more tired. But one thing hasn’t changed, my desire to live life: dine out, enjoy breweries, and travel. Doing those things with kids, three of them, is a lot of work and it’s also fun. I enjoy introducing the kids to new things, new places, and new food.

Unfortunately, the world is not set up for families. So, we’re extra thankful for equipment that gives us a fighting chance to have a good time. Or just eat a meal without holding a baby. Or gives the kid some autonomy and the Portable High Chair does just that. There are other similar options but I haven’t traded in my Ciao! Baby Portable High Chair because I can stick a just sitting, or mostly sitting baby in the chair without fear of them toppling over and out. The side walls come up high enough and offer support for a younger baby— win, more freedom for you… and them.

I’m also a fan of (and maybe a bit obsessive about) keeping things clean, which is not an issue with the durable canvas material. In fact, if you have older kids, washing the high chair becomes an activity. Give kids a bucket with suds and they will scrub anything until it shines. But if you don’t have free child labor at home, a baby wipe suffices to keep the high chair from getting crusty or funky.

And yes, there’s more, and no, I’m not getting paid.

The chair folds up easily and is stowed in the matching carrying bag. Sling it over your shoulder with ease, it’s lighter than the kid you’re carrying. I just looked up the weight of the chair, and that’s not an exaggeration; the high chair weighs just under seven pounds, which is nothing for a mom who would rather lose all feeling in her fingers carrying shit from the car to the house before conceding to multiple trips.

Honestly, my husband and I are asked about the Ciao! Baby Portable High Chair every time we pull it out (that’s what she said). Parents with grown children lament how much easier we have it now with all these new gadgets. Parents of young children want to know who makes it and where to get it. And it’s the gift I buy for every baby shower (along with a Nose Frida).

Take or leave my opinion but you should definitely take it. And when you’re sitting at dinner sans baby on your lap, snap a photo and as a thank you, post and tag @allthethingsmotherish.
