Sex Not Candy
In motherhood it can be hard (that’s what she said) to find: the time, the space, the will, the desire-- for sex. And on a day like today, Valentine’s Day, the pressure can be painful; the pressure to exchange gifts, cards, and of course, social media posts that declare your undying love for one another, but I encourage all you mamas out there to take back Valentine’s day. After all, we are many hundreds of years away from celebrating the feast of Lupercalia, which included animal sacrifice, matchmaking via a lottery, and violence; we can thank Chaucer and the Bard for romanticizing February 14th in their works, which has led us to an $18 billion industry (The Dark Origins of Valentine's Day).
Ditch the ideals of red roses, chocolates, and preset meals. Climb up on a dick. Your partner’s dick. The dick that got you into this journey of motherhood.
You will be happy; he will be happy. Use Valentine’s Day as the excuse, the catalyst, the match under the fire within-- and if that doesn't work read my poem below, it’s bound to inspire you to start climbing.
